Puerto Aysén is a city located in the Aysén Region of General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo, in Chile.
Founded in 1929, its name is due to the Aysén River, which crosses it and flows into the Pacific Ocean.
Originally, the city's economy was based on fishing and logging, but currently it also stands out for tourism and agriculture.
During the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, Puerto Aysén was the scene of numerous human rights violations and political repression.
Currently, Puerto Aysén is an important urban and tourist center of the Aysén Region, with attractions such as the Queulat National Park, the Aysén fjord and the Austral Scenic Route.
