Of course, Santiago is the capital and largest city of Chile, located in the central zone of the country, in a valley surrounded by the Andes Mountains to the east and the Coastal Mountains to the west.
The city was founded in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia and has witnessed important historical events, such as the War of Independence and the 1973 coup that overthrew President Salvador Allende.
Today, Santiago is an important cultural, economic, and political center, with numerous museums, art galleries, theaters, and a lively nightlife.
It also has tourist attractions such as the San Cristóbal Hill, the La Moneda Palace and the Central Market.
The city is well connected by road, train, and plane, with the Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport located about 15 kilometers west of the city center.
