Talca is a Chilean city located in the Maule Region. It was founded in 1742 by the Spanish governor José Antonio Manso de Velasco.
During the colonial era, Talca was an important center of agricultural and wine production.
During the War of Independence, the city was the scene of important battles, such as the Battle of Cancha Rayada in 1818 and the Battle of Maipú in 1818, in which the patriotic forces led by Bernardo O'Higgins defeated the royalist forces.
In the 20th century, Talca has become an important educational and cultural center, with various higher education institutions and cultural events such as the Harvest Festival.
