Valparaíso is a port city in Chile, located about 120 km northwest of Santiago.
Known as the "Jewels of the Pacific," the city is famous for its multicolored houses, steep hills, and zigzag stairs that lead to spectacular panoramic views of the ocean and bay.
Valparaíso is an important international trade port and also a university and tourist city.
Among its tourist attractions are the historic center of the city, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, with its alleys, squares and old buildings; the Concepción elevator and other elevators that go up and down the hills of the city; the Naval and Maritime Museum; and the port, where it is possible to take a boat tour to see the surroundings from the sea.
To get to Valparaíso from Santiago you can take a bus at the Santiago Bus Terminal, which takes about 1.5 hours, or take a train from the Central Station, which takes about 2 hours.
It is also possible to arrive by car, taking route 68 that connects Santiago de Chile with Valparaíso.
