Arica is a coastal city located in the northern region of Chile, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
It is located in the extreme north of the country, on the border with Peru and Bolivia, in the region of Arica and Parinacota.
The city is surrounded by the Atacama desert to the east and the ocean to the west. Arica is an important seaport and a gateway to southern Peru.
