Calama is a city located in the Antofagasta region, in northern Chile.
It is known for being one of the most important mining centers in Chile, due to the large number of copper deposits found in the area.
In addition to its mining industry, Calama is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to some of the most impressive places in the Atacama Desert, such as the Salar de Atacama and the city of San Pedro de Atacama.
Among the tourist attractions of Calama are the Plaza de Armas, the San Juan Bautista Church, the Museo del Desierto, which offers an interesting perspective on the geological and cultural history of the region, and the Chuquicamata Mine, an open pit mine which is considered one of the largest in the world.
To get to Calama, you can take a direct flight from Santiago de Chile or from some cities in the region.
There are also buses and trains that connect Calama with other cities in Chile and neighboring countries such as Bolivia and Argentina.
Regarding its location, Calama is located in the Antofagasta region, in northern Chile, about 1,200 kilometers north of Santiago. It is located on the eastern edge of the Atacama Desert, one of the driest regions in the world.
