Caldera is a city and coastal commune located in the Atacama region, in northern Chile.
It was founded in the 19th century and for a long time it was an important port for the export of minerals, especially copper. At present, its port is used mainly for fishing and tourism.
The city has a wide variety of tourist attractions, including beaches, museums and historical monuments.
It is also a popular stop for those traveling the Ruta del Huasco, a tourist route that runs through the Huasco Valley in the Atacama region.
