Caldera is a coastal commune in the Atacama Region, in northern Chile.
Located about 75 kilometers west of the city of Copiapó, it is an important fishing and tourist port.
Among the tourist attractions of Caldera, its beautiful beaches stand out, such as Ramada beach and Brava beach, ideal for practicing water sports and enjoying the sun and the sea.
In addition, the city has several monuments and historical buildings, such as the Church of San Vicente Ferrer, the Caldera Lighthouse and the Caldera Paleontological Museum, which exhibits fossils of prehistoric animals and plants found in the area.
Another important attraction of Caldera is the Isla de los Muertos, a small island located off the coast of the city, which owes its name to the fact that the deceased who arrived in Caldera during the gold rush in the 19th century were buried there. . Currently, the island is a popular destination for tourism and sport fishing.
To get to Caldera you can take Route 5 North from Santiago to Copiapó, and from there take Route 1 that leads directly to the city.
It is also possible to arrive by plane at the Atacama Desert airport, located about 60 kilometers from the city.
