Copiapó is a city located in the Atacama Region, in northern Chile.
It is located about 800 kilometers north of Santiago de Chile, the capital of the country, and is the provincial capital of the Province of Copiapó.
The city is known for being an important mining center and for its colonial architecture, which can be seen in buildings such as the Cathedral of San Francisco de Asís and the Casa de la Cultura de Atacama.
