The city of La Serena was founded in 1544 by the Spanish Francisco de Aguirre in the Coquimbo region of Chile.
It is one of the oldest cities in the country and has a rich colonial and religious history. During the War of Independence,
La Serena was one of the strongholds of the fight against Spanish rule in Chile.
Today, it is a popular tourist town due to its beautiful beaches, well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture, and proximity to the Elqui and Limarí wine valleys.
