The history of the town of Lago Ranco dates back to pre-Hispanic times, when the area was inhabited by the Huilliches.
In colonial times, the area was explored by the Spanish in search of gold and silver, but they eventually settled in the region to dedicate themselves to agriculture and livestock.
In 1928, Lago Ranco was declared a nature reserve, and in 1941 the town of Lago Ranco was founded.
During the following years, the town developed as an important tourist center thanks to its beautiful natural environment and its proximity to other tourist destinations in the Los Ríos region.
Today, Lago Ranco is known for its stunning scenery of mountains, forests, and lakes, as well as its diverse offering of outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, biking, and water sports.
The town is also famous for its rich gastronomy, which includes typical dishes such as roast lamb and curanto.
