The city of Puerto Montt, located in southern Chile, was founded in 1853 during the German colonization of the area.
In its early years, it was an important port for the export of wood and wool.
Over time, it has become an important tourist and fishing center in the Los Lagos region, standing out for its gastronomy, its traditional festivals and the natural beauty of the area, such as the fjords, islands and nearby volcanoes.
In 1960, Puerto Montt suffered one of the strongest earthquakes in history, which generated a large tsunami that affected a large part of the city and its surroundings.
However, the city has recovered and today is one of the most important in southern Chile.
