Putre is a small commune and town located in the Arica y Parinacota region, in northern Chile.
Its history dates back to pre-Hispanic times, when it was an important center of commerce and a transit point for caravans that crossed the Andes.
During the Spanish colony, Putre was an important administrative and religious center, and today it is a quiet and picturesque place, surrounded by imposing mountains and archaeological remains of the Aymara culture.
The main tourist attractions of Putre include the church of San Andrés, the main square, the viewpoint of the cross and the many trekking and mountaineering trails in the area.
In addition, it is a starting point to visit the Lauca National Park and its famous lagoons and volcanoes.
To get to Putre, it is necessary to take a bus from Arica or from other nearby towns such as Iquique and Tacna.
