Vicuña is a city located in the Elqui province in the Coquimbo region of Chile.
Founded in 1821, it has been an important economic and cultural center of the region ever since.
The city is known for being the birthplace of the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral and has a museum dedicated to her life and work. In addition, it is the starting point to explore the nearby valleys and the astronomical observatories in the region.
The city also has a historic 18th century church and a picturesque central square lined with restaurants and craft shops.
